First of all, let us introduce ourselves ~ we are Graeme and Lesley Fairhall, and we live in Briagolong, Victoria, with our 4 RRs (Reba, Shiloh, Twiggy and Roma). It all began many years ago in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) during my teen years, where I fell in love with the breed. This interest renewed itself years later, after my arrival in Australia. Graeme suffered from 'love me, love my dogs' and has embraced the RR world with equal enthusiasm (Lucky for me!) We don't breed very often, but our puppies have travelled far and wide, recently as far as Hawaii (Hi Mike and Duke), and to Western Australia (Garry, Anne and 'Cyclone' Zoe and Zia), South Australia, Tasmania ~ and most parts of Victoria. Of course, we would love to have many more RRs than we do, and actually sell our pups with a health warning ~ 'they are addictive!' One is never enough, as many of our puppy owners have subsequently found! Our pups are raised in a home environment, and are well socialised before they leave us at 8 weeks....all potential puppy buyers are invited to visit as often as they can once the pups reach about 4 weeks of age, and can interact with people. Graeme also loves to sit in the whelping box with the pups and let them climb all over him! Many of our puppy adopters tell us that their new family member is almost house-trained by the time they get them home, which we credit to their mum's teaching by example....we have watched pups aged as young as 4 weeks, only just out of the box, going outside to do their stuff, even when it's raining! Don't worry, the fondness for rain doesn't last, as all RR owners will know! Both Graeme and I are proud to be members of the Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of Victoria and stand firmly by the club's Code of Ethics. I have been a member since it's inception, and also served on the committee over the years in various capacities, including Treasurer and Editor. All Mzilakazi RRs are x-rayed for HD before being used in any breeding program, and we thoroughly research the history of dogs used prior to mating, thus ensuring that we are making a decision from a well-informed basis. This will not guarantee pups will be free of genetic disorders, but will at least provide us with the tools to improve in future generations.
